If I had booked with any other company, I would have been out of the airport at least 30 minutes earlier. The car was a Skoda Fabia, and was very clunky and poor quality to drive. It was probably the poorest quality car I have ever received. Fine, the car met the minimal specs for the class I rented, but would not recommend in future. "

As I have not had a credit card only a debit card they charged me € 150 to provide comprehensive insurance for the car. This was the only way to get the car I rented, they did not accept cash nor my debit card to pay the deposit. I have been very upset as this extra fee was never indicated under the terms and conditions. In addition, I have been charged an extra € 133.71 that I was not advised about. As I have handed over my debit card to the member of the staff and the payment needed no pin code I only realized that they charged € 283.71(The Rental Fee we paid to Autoeurope was a total of € 20.92)for the 5 day rental when we returned home and checked my bank account balance. Now I see that the details for the € 133.71 is also stated on the receipt I got from the staff but I cannot figure out what is stands for and why I have never been asked for an approval for this fee too but only advised about € 150 insurance fee. I find this very unfair and illegal that they just charged me and extra fee(€133.71) without any notification and my approval. The rental rates for this company is very misleading as they seem very competitive and cheap but at the end you need to pay 10 times more than what they state upon paying the car rental fee. "

However at drop off, having had no incidents, the surveyor picked upon a very small scratch, one cm long under the drivers handle, for which I ended up paying ?200. When I picked up I was told not to bother with small scratches. When I objected I was told to claim from my insurers. I did not have time to make further objections as I was anxious to check in for my flight. From a reasonable cost of ?74 I ended up paying ?328 in total. I feel totally ripped off ! "

Following the inspection by a Firefly staff member, who confirmed that the vehicle was returned damage free I was advised that I should join a queue to receive my final invoice. I estimated, from the length of the queue, that it would take at least 30 minutes before my bill was processed. I was under time pressure for my flight and could not afford this delay. Luckily the engineer who inspected the car agreed to take my key and I received my invoice electronically later that night - which was perfect. I suggest that this potential delay is made clear to customers at vehicle collection. "

The minimum standard available to the customer, after a long journey should be an air conditioned rest area while waiting to take up the rented car. Also, the customer should not feel pressurised to take out additional, costly insurance...there is an implied threat that any damage to the rented car will prove costly! "

However, they do pressurise the customer to take out additional insurance... this time, I resisted and insisted that the package paid for with Auto Europe included Super Cover... Also after paying 95 for the hire, I was then charged 97 for fuel and told I had to bring the car back empty with no option. I was also charged 51 for additional insurance as if the car broke down through no fault of mine, I would have to cover the cost of getting the car back to the airport (some 40 minutes drive from my apartment). Also I was asked if I wanted an upgrade of car - was charged 14 and subsequently overheard that they were out of the small car class that I originally booked and would have to have given me the larger car anyway. Altogether highly unsatisfactory and using them does Auto Europe no favours in securing return business! "
