" As a very regular user of Autoeurope there were 2 serious concerns: My credit card had the deposit take from it rather than being pre-authorised. The pick up/drop off point is not as advertised...at airport....it is in fact a shuttle bus drive outside the airport. Cars in Lanzarote are rarely in good condition but finding a very obvious food item in the car on collection and dust all over the back seat indicates the car was not cleaned before renting. "

" Avis / Budget do not have a desk in Arrecife Airport and their cars are offsite. We had to work this out and find where to get their shuttle bus to their offsite location. Renting from a company that is based in the airport is always a priority for us and based on the Auto Europe booking and reservation, it was implied that Avis / Budget were in the terminal building, as the reservation confirmation stated to go to the Avis / Budget desk. Very disappointing and frankly if we had been informed correctly that Avis / Budget were offsite, we would not have booked with them. "

" The fact that you have to wait 25mins with around 30 other people in the sun for a bus to bring you around 3km from the airport to collect your car is not great. Once you remove your bags from the bus and you then spend at least another 40 mins in a queue (if you are lucky) with the other 30 people from the bus stop is infuriating and causes a lot of tension between customers and the rental company, I'd hate to see what its like when its the high season! They used to be just across the road from airport and worked a 100 times better. Very disappointing from a perceived premium brand "

" Had boked a Seat Leon or similar "compact" car. Gentleman at the Budget desk "Jose" tried to give us a large van instead as it was as he said "the end of the season and we have no cars left". I declined the van is this was clearly not "similar" to a seat Leon. He then tried to make me pay 20 extra a day for a T-cross as this was the only other vehicle he had left. I took the T-cross but declined to pay extra. The car was not clean and had some scratches: Jose advised: "what do you expect, it is the end of the season", he then told me to take photos of the car rather than taking an inventory of the issues himself. "

" First off, there were 2 identical reservations made for me by Auto Europe which I only become aware of when I arrived at the Budget desk in Barcelona airport. I did not notice the 2 different voucher numbers on the emails which you sent me and only saw them different numbers when it was pointed out to me by the Budget rep. I told him I did not make 2 bookings but he said I would need to contact your company on this, he would not help me to cancel the 2nd booking. Then, the main issue arose when he asked me for my driving licence and passport. I had forgotten to bring my passport with me to the airport and he told me he would not be giving me the car without seeing my original passport. I explained to him that we had not actually arrived at the airport on a flight and that we had taken a train up from Cambrils, a trip which took 2 hours in total. This made no difference to him, he had to see my passport. I then showed him a page on the Budget website which said that they would accept either a passport, driving licence with photo, or national ID card. He ignored this very important point and said that because I had booked through Auto Europe, their email would have stated what I needed to bring with me when collecting the car. Obviously he was correct on this as your email did indeed say that i should bring my passport. However, he was not prepared to make any exception for me, even though I made reference to Budget's own website saying something different about proof of ID. I also gave the Budget rep my Public Services card, which is issued by the Irish Government and which has my photo on it - no joy with that as he said it is not a national ID card (this is correct). The bottom line was that even though I put him on the phone to 2 of your reps from your Lisbon call centre, they could not get him to change his mind - I would have to go back down to Cambrils, collect my passport, come back up to Barcelona, show him my passport, and then I could collect my rental car. I had been waiting in line for almost 45 mins before I first spoke to this rep and he told me that he could not help me any more and that he needed to deal with other clients waiting behind me. Bottom line was that I wasted almost 2 hours at the airport trying and failing to get him to change his mind. I did go back to Cambrils and collect my passport and get back to the airport at 1.00am in the morning. As the T2 Budget rental desk was closed since 12.00, I went to the T1 desk and was looked after by a lovely rep who was shocked when I told him what happened to me earlier in the day. He said that Budget are allowed to make exceptions, and he could have asked a manager to look at my situation and agree to accept the ID I showed the rep. This was never offered to me when I was at the desk. The nice Budget rep said he would give me an upgrade on the car I had booked and he was so nice to deal with, in total contrast to the earlier rep in T2. I was so annoyed with the first Budget rep that my wife had to calm me down by taking me outside the terminal building for some fresh air. We spotted a Ryanair cabin crew member who even got on the phone to your Lisbon call centre for me as she spoke good Spanish and she explained what had happened earlier at the rental desk. Even after speaking with 2 of your staff and getting one of them to speak to the Budget rep, I got no joy. Overall, I was so annoyed with the attitude of the Budget rep and I would like you to raise the following point with them - the fact that their own website says that they will accept a driving licence with photo, as proof of ID, yet their staff member ignored this fact and decided to disregard what is in their website under Terms and Conditions - ID requirements (just checked again now and it does still say this on their website for car rental in Barcelona airport). I had to spend almost another 6 hours travelling from Barcelona airport to Cambrils and back to the airport, because one awful rep would not accept what his own company's website says they will require as proof of ID - no mention at all about a passport being required, if you have a driving licence with photo on it! It cost me and my wife almost €50 in additional train and metro costs due to this stupid rep not doing his job properly and I would like to be compensated for this additional expense. I could have ended up having my car rental booking cancelled if I did not get back to the airport before 1.30am and I was just lucky enough to be back their at 1.00am. Please let me know what you can do for me about this experience - I will never be recommending Budget again to anyone who asks me for a good company to deal with when hiring a car. " Daniel from Avis couner(I think that was his name) was very helpful and really nice guy. It took him FOREVER to deal with clients. I rent cars a lot so I didn't require any detailed explaining but it still took him about 20 minutes for some reason. What I do not accept is any small print charges - got charged ,19 Euro for fuel charge. Nothing I could do. Even if I take it full and return full. That is a filthy thing to do. If you want to flat charge customer with additional fees put in in your base charge. "

" My experience to this point with Auto Europe has been very very good, and I recommended you to many friends over the years. With my recent flight to Lanzarote my plane landed at 10.15pm. All the Car Rental kiosks were open except Budget. I had to book an independent car hire with Europcar. It cost Euro 142-. I had already paid you for a rental car!! I rang Budget while in Lanzarote, spent 20 mins. on the phone, but no joy on a refund. My problem is that Auto Europe booked a car that it was impossible for me to collect after 10 pm at Budget , as they were closed at 10pm, while other rental companies were still open. "

" Budget Office at Gerona Airport is a good 500 metre walk with baggage from the terminal building. It is not well signposted in the terminal. Most of the major rental car companies have an office in the terminal building, but not Budget. I had to ask Hertz staff where the budget office was. It is not clear to drivers how to access the drop-off car park either. The large Budget/Avis sign is erected at the wrong entrance - rental cars were queuing up to get into a DHL distribution centre, because that's where the Budget sign appeared to be indicating. There was only one staff member on duty at the Budget counter, while another sat in an inside office, even though a queue was forming. Need for staff to work at the counter when the office is busy. The staff member himself was very friendly, courteous, efficient and effective. He offered a glass of water to people waiting as it was a very hot day. It was a much appreciated gesture. He just needs another staff member to help out at busy times. Drop off of car on return was very fast and effective. No waiting involved. But it meant another long walk with baggage across a busy road as far as the terminal building. The absence of a footpath in places meant that car renters had to walk on the road. Dangerous, especially if young children are involved. Need to install safe pedestrian walk way from Budget office to airport terminal. The car itself was in very good condition and well maintained. Overall dealing with Budget near Gerona airport was a pleasant experience. I would go back to them again with future business. "
