" As above, process was good and it is probably common for rentals to have some minor dints in Sicily but they should be all recorded in advance. "

There was an offer to replace the car but damage was only superficial I.e structural dints, scrapes etc and not mechanical. While the car was taken ( As we were anxious to get on our way) all damage should have been on the lease from the start. "

" Worst experience ever and zero flexibility. I forgot my credit card used to book the car. But I had my card from the joint account and my debit card, both with my name on it. I tried to cancel the booking, to swap the driver name to my wife, to pay the tax in cash at the counter, I've tried everything. There was no mercy. The airport was packed and they had no car available, so by refusing me to get the car, they rented for double price for somebody else. I have paid 280 euros originally and even if I had the card, the car wasn't available. The staff was rude and with no sympathy to help. It took me 3 hours to find another car in a different company, ending up paying an extra 700 euros! Great trip start. Now I have decided to envolve my solicitor as they could not refuse my debit card. I will go as far as I need to get my compensation back. "

" I always like to rent from the same two groups: yours or the Hertz one because there are none of the sharp practices you get with the "so called cheaper brands" which never are cheaper. If there was one suggestion I would like to make it's that when you have a repeat customer, instead of trying to always sell them an update at the counter (especially as car hire in Italy is more expensive than most other countries) it would be good customer relations to offer a gratis upgrade. When we first started renting cars regularly 10 years ago this often happened but has not in many years. Instead there is a constant hard sell at the desk to upgrade. I'm in Italy 5 times a year and rent a car every time. I get tired of the "hard sell" at the desk but, in fairness, you are not as aggressive as the less reputable firms. I must congratulate you on your staff and fairness. keep it up "

Maggiore are claiming their desk was manned at that time but it was not. I ended up renting a car from Firefly for one day and then returning to Maggiore on the 28th June. By the next day my car was rented to someone else. I was accused of lying about the time I arrived the previous evening. They offered me a Fiat punto for five people but I had paid for a Ford Focus estate type vehicle. They were completely unhelpful. After a huge row they gave in and gave me a Peogeot estate. I am out of pocket for the Firefly rental for €60 euros. In thier defence my contact details adn flight number were not transmitted to Maggiore so they could not contact me if they had wanted to. "

" Frankly your organisation is extremely poor and my experience was extremely bad, not to mention the manner in which I was treated by your after sales team who accused me of lying about my flight delay. My family and I were left high and dry by your company. Because my flight was delayed and I arrived after midnight apparently not only are your partners not available but your policy is to cancel the booking! I was left with 2 alternatives, get an expensive hotel for the night with my family and hope to be able to get another deal through your organisation the next day, whilst losing the value of my previous booking, or pay a higher price for what turned out to be an excellent rental company that were thoughtful and helpful. Our escapade was compounded by your extremely rude after sales care team. They accused me of lying about the fact that my flight was delayed. I mean the cheek of them. I was shocked by the manner in which I was treated and will be making sure that everyone in my entourage is clear about the lack of service from your organisation! Your company may expect a claim processed through the small claims court in Ireland. Never again to use your service and certainly not with Maggiore either. "
" Dear Autoeurope, I am in the process of starting a claim against both your organisation and Maggiore. My flight was delayed past midnight and despite having rung the Maggiore desk, to inform them before getting on my flight (in fact my flight arrived at five minutes past midnight and i got to the Maggiore office at 15 minutes past midnight), their office was closed. When I spoke to them before my flight they were rude and very simply unwavering in their refusal to remain after midnight for the hire. THis effectively left me and my family high and dry with no car to get to our destination! Understandable if that was on the T&C but we own a property in Como and renting cars out of Milan the last 10 years and never witnessed this before. Than requested to pay more for another car as that was only one available due to fact that "not enough rental cars in Milan" ! Absolute nonsensical statement ! However what really aggravated me was been giving a car seat like it was a bomb and told to install it myself! Having only ever used an Isofix this was not familiar to me. Despite murmurous requests I was told by "customer care" repeatedly they just hand them out! Do not know how to install them! After 90 minutes of waiting two Army Officers who were walking by gave us a hand! It still took them30 minutes as could not remove the base that I was stuck on! I spent hours to try to get somebody on the road assistance helpline and finally when I got connected the person on the line advised me that he didn't speak English and that somebody will call me back in next five minutes. I was waiting for few hours and finally I got the text message that they couldn't reached me even though my mobile phone was on all the time. In the meantime I had to fix the jump leads myself and start the engine. Also tyres were in very poor condition. After my very bad and stressful experiences I will make sure that I will never book any car through Auto Europe again. "

However, the car we got was somewhat dirty as it seemed to have been parked in a forest and had a lot of leaves and dirt in all the crevices. " There was a problem with the computer system which brought a breakdown of the handling of the cars and customers. We waited for about 3 hours to get a car. When we got the papers for the car the car was still not in and we had to wait for another 20 minutes. I also got a smaller car than I paid for, a Fiat 500L instead of an Opel Astra Estate. I complained over that but just got the answer that this is the only car we have. Luckily we brought less luggage that planned but if we would have had more luggage we would never be able to all of it into this small car. Eventually I could have insisted on a bigger car but after an 11 hours flight we were all exhausted. I have rented from Maggiore before and this kind of thing has never happened. Maybe we were just unlucky but it was really frustrating. "

" The company Maggiore behaves incorrectly when issuing cars. Already known damage they do not note in the contract (as do other car rental companies). If you do not notice the damage, then when you return the car is forced to pay for the damage not done by you. With me there was just such a case: when issuing a car, the rental's crew told me that "the car is new, there is no damage", I briefly inspected the car, everything was ok, and only after 2 days by accident, being close to the front wheel, I noticed abrasions on the wheel. Although I drove only on the road and on the borders did not come, then 2 days the car just stood in the Villa (where I accidentally noticed the damage). Since the damage was not recorded when issuing a car, then at the time of delivery of the car this damage is "recorded " on me. I think the behavior of the car rental company unworthy, because someone gave them the last time the car already with this damage. I understand that formally I am not right, but for myself I have made a conclusion - I will not use Maggiore anymore. Asked for receipt which showed €138 in charges. One was expected - a one way drop off charge, but the others were 'rental charges' and something to do with fuel - the car was returned full. The additional charges were queried and after dealing with two staff I was told they were being refunded. They said it would take 5 days so I'll have to see if this happens. "

The only thing is recently I noticed a few new "low cost" company (e.g. Goldcar) that can offer a very good price but sometimes they have tricky terms and conditions...it would be usuful get them to advertise their product more clearly and in a more transparent way. I've always been pro "low cost" but if we look elsewhere we see that even Ryanair (which I've always used) had to improved their customer service and become transparent. "

Last time I hired the car with them my credit card had expired (without me realizing it) and they gave me car anyway, with a debit card, at no extra cost. Nice laidback (but efficent) attitude. " Generally good but with following observations. The wait in Pisa for service was very long (nearly an hour). Then when I went to get car from parking lot it had a minor, but long, scratch down side of car which wasn't noted on hire documentation. I then had to wait a further 25 minutes to get this added to docs. (A separate Q would fix this) The 'sell' of additional insurance excess is a bit heavy. The initial price quoted for 2 child booster seats was double what was quoted online. Only when I referenced the online price, the over the counter price was immediately adjusted. (The implication being, had I not checked I would have been charged the far heaftier counter quote). Service was generally friendly. Return was straightforward. "

" In general I have found Auto Europe convenient, BUT There are too many additional charges and hidden extras from the various companies I have used recently (Firefly, Maggiore for example). Examples of hidden charges "taxes", "airport charges", a charge per KM when over a certain KM limit (Firefly), These charges should be visible when booking and be part of the AutoEurope voucher. Also, there are always charges for additional driver, it should be possible to add the extra driver when making the booking on AutoEurope and know the cost of this when booking. "
