" I am writing to you following a recent experience with Hertz, Bordeaux (ref #14468925), where myself, my wife and 2 children (3 and 10 months) had an absolutely horrific experience. Upon returning our car on Tuesday 24 July 2018, I requested a copy of the invoice having been informed that the were no issues with the car upon return. The receptionist informed me that there was a €578 charge being applied to my credit card due as we had "exceeded the 5,500km allowance" for the trip. This was 100% false as our accommodation was 50k away from the airport and we made limited trips during our vacation. Having articulated this to the very cold and unhelpful receptionist and informing him that our flight was due to depart and that we had 2 young children who were very upset in sweltering heat, he spoke with his manager via the phone and confirmed that they would reduce the charge to €278. No clear explanation was given other than the computer reading was originally incorrect. Myself and my wife reiterated that we did not exceed our mileage limit and that this was impossible given we would have needed to cover approx. 300km per day and he refused to acknowledge our claim, instead requesting that we make a complaint when we get home to Ireland. I informed the individual that we would not leave until this issue was addressed and he then walked into the main terminal to locate his manager. 15 mins later he returned at a very leisurely pace and claimed that she was not available. My wife, crying at this stage for fear of missing our flight and given our 10 month old had an accident in his diaper, stated that this was 100% fictitious and that we need to speak to a manager. At this point, the manager appeared from a room right beside the reception area of the porta cabin (having been within earshot for the proceeding 45 minutes). The manager would not speak with us and instead sat at the computer. 10 minutes later she informed us that there was no charge and provided a receipt confirming that we had travelled 1,898km (not close to the 5,500 limit). No explanation was provided when requested, no apology was provided. This incident was a direct attempt to deceive me and my family into paying unwarranted costs, lasting approximately one hour and had the following impact on my family: - Two deeply distressed children who were kept for a significant period of time in sweltering conditions. My 10 month old son had an accident in his diaper as we did not have access to changing facilities. - My wife was highly distressed and was crying throughout the episode and has been deeply upset by this in the days following this incident. - We were very close to missing our flight and had to be rushed through check in and customs. - All in all, it significantly tarnished our vacation experience and has a left a sour taste in our mouths. I would be genuinely concerned that any customer who did not ask for the invoice on the following the inspection of the car would be charged the full false amount and have very little hope in recovering this once back in Ireland. Next steps – based on response received following this issuance of this complaint: - I will never use Hertz car travel our your website again and will ensure that I inform friends, colleague and local media outlets of this incident. - Myself and my wife work for large multinational corporations and will inform our respective HR departments of this issue. This may result in action being taken in respect of any relationship the companies have with Hertz or AutoEurope. - We will determine whether any further formal action is required in respect of this incident. "

" I was extremely disatisfied with the service. Immediately after making the reservation I realised I required a credit card to rent the car. However, as I do not have one, I requested to cancel the booking. This was straight after making the reservation and nobody would assist me. I made the reservation 24 hours before pick up so it wasn?t possible for me to avail of the forty eight hour booking rule "
