Car hire insurance part 2: USA

Compare car hire options in the USATraveling is exploring new countries, cultures and people. From place to place, you can see the same things from a different perspective. If you hire a car in the USA, the coverage conditions vary as well. We have put together a list of coverage types included in Auto Europe rates to make it easier for you to travel.

Auto Europe car hire offers include all necessary insurance, therefore there is no need for concern or the purchase of additional options at the car hire supplier desk at the time of pick-up.

Car hire coverage included when renting with Auto Europe in the USA

    • Liability Insurance (LI): This type of insurance provides the minimum coverage mandated by law, which varies by state. It is essential to review the terms and conditions of the car rental voucher for specific details regarding coverage amounts.
    • Additional Liability Insurance (ALI): This insurance extends coverage beyond the minimum legal requirements, protecting against damages to third parties and their property in the event of an accident involving the rental vehicle. Typically, the coverage limit is up to $1,000,000 per incident.
    • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP): This fundamental coverage safeguards against financial responsibility for damage to or theft of the rental vehicle. It often includes protection for tires and windshields; however, it is advisable to verify these details in advance. Both options may be available with or without a refundable excess.
    • Uninsured Driver Protection (UDP): This coverage is usually included in the rental fee and protects against damages to the rental vehicle caused by drivers who do not have insurance. This type of protection is crucial in situations where your vehicle is damaged by an uninsured motorist.

Optional coverage options in the USA

Upon your arrival to pick up your car rental in the United States, it is customary for the local provider to present additional insurance options. These options are entirely optional, and Auto Europe neither endorses, benefits from, nor issues refunds for these insurances, even if they are later considered unnecessary. To make a well-informed choice regarding these insurances, it is essential to thoroughly understand the coverage you selected during your reservation, including what is covered and what is not. The insurance options available from local suppliers can differ, but typically, the following are the most prevalent:

    • Personal Accident Insurance (PAI): This insurance provides coverage for medical expenses or accidental death resulting from an accident for both the driver and passengers.
    • Personal Property Coverage (PEC): This insurance safeguards against damage or loss of personal belongings within the vehicle for the driver and immediate family members.
    • Roadside Assistance: This coverage ensures support in the event of a mechanical failure of the rental vehicle, including assistance with tires, battery issues, unlocking the vehicle, fuel delivery, and more. However, the costs for replacing tires or batteries are not included in the rental rate.
    • Roadside Assistance Plus: This enhanced coverage offers additional support for roadside assistance needs, including key replacement, fuel delivery, and unlocking services, among others.
