Car hire coverage in the USA explained

Along with great car hire rates for the USA, we also provide exceptional add-ons to help you save money and drive in the USA safely. As a USA based broker, Auto Europe knows what its costumers need during their car hire within the USA. Our USA car hire coverage has been designed to facilitate your rental and make it as stress-free as possible. It comes included as standard with all our USA car hire.

What is included in your car hire coverage whilst in the USA?

The following is what is included in your USA coverage:

    • Liability Insurance (LI): This offers the minimum legally required amount of coverage as defined by the State. As the amount varies between states, it is important to read the car hire voucher’s terms and conditions for details.
    • Additional Liability Insurance (ALI): Provides cover above the minimum legal requirement in the event of damage to objects and persons outside of the car hire vehicle. Coverage is normally up to $1,000,000 per accident.
    • Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP): This base rate cover provides protection from liability to damage or theft of car hire vehicle. Often, this coverage includes tyres and windscreen – but it is important to check and confirm this beforehand. Both come with or without refundable excess.
    • Uninsured Driver Protection (UDP): Generally, coverage against damage to the car hire vehicle by uninsured drivers is included within the rental rate. This type of insurance is vital if someone damages your car and they themselves do not have insurance.

As you can see, the insurance coverage included by Auto Europe for customers renting out cars in the USA is of good value. However, these insurances will not cover all eventualities. For this it is important to investigate getting additional coverage during your booking. We highly recommend reading up on what is and isn’t included in each coverage. Read fully and carefully your car hire voucher’s terms and conditions, paying particular attention to insurance coverage.

It is also important to know that any additional driver added to the car rental will also be covered by the same insurances as taken out during time of booking. It is therefore vital that all drivers are named on the rental agreement. Failure to do so, will mean that you will be fully liable for any damage or undesirable occurrences to the car hire vehicle.

    Optional insurances in the USA

When you arrive to collect your car hire in the USA, it is common practice by the local supplier to offer additional insurances. These are strictly optional, and Auto Europe does not recommend, profit or refund said insurances, even if deemed to have been unnecessary afterwards. In order to make an informed decision on whether you want these insurances, it is important to make yourself fully aware of what insurances you took out during your booking. What is included and what isn’t included. Insurance coverage offered over the counter by the local supplier varies between suppliers, but generally, the following are the most common:

    • Personal Accident Insurance (PAI): This insurance offers protection against medical costs or accidental death due to an accident for the driver and any passengers.
    • Personal Property Coverage (PEC): This insurance offers protection against damage or loss to any personal property within the vehicle to the driver and direct family members.
    • Roadside Assistance: This coverage offers protection at the roadside should the car hire vehicle have a mechanical malfunction, this includes assistance with tyres, the car battery, unlocking the vehicle service, fuel delivery and more. If replacing the tyres or battery, the item cost is not included in the rate.
    • Roadside Assistance Plus: This coverage offers protection should you need roadside assistance. It includes key replacement, fuel delivery, unlocking the car service and more.
