" The counter staff was very unhelpful, and not customer oriented at all. He basically kept stating some policies without listening to me, and trying to understand my experience at the time. He treated me at a lower standard because I had booked through a third party. He said that my Revolut Bank issued Visa credit card won't be accepted, which I found shocking and frustrating, firstly because being a Visa credit card, the issuing bank should not matter, and it was actually the first time that I got any problem with the Visa card, just because of the issuing bank. And second, because this "policy" was not advertised anywhere, not on the website where I booked the car, but also not even in the counter, where a sign with Visa card as accepted car was displayed, no mentions to banks at all. At the end, I still had, by chance an older Visa card issued by a different bank, that barely had the credit to cover the amount hold, and that I'm about to cancel. On top of the issue with the card, I had to provide in 3 different occasions my personal details, including email address. All this information was already provided in the webform when I booked the car, and it was frustrating to have to do it many more times at the counter. Again, when I mentioned this to the staff, he just said the details were not there form him, without trying to understand why I was complaining about it. "

" I returned the car on Friday September 13 and heard nothing from the company until, on Thursday September 26, I noticed they had deducted €719.23 from my account. I contacted the office in Shannon and told me there was damage to the car. That was the first I heard of it. The did not have the courtesy to inform me there was a problem and secondly that they were taking money from me. I contacted my credit card company and they recalled the payment into a holding account pending resolution. I spoke to a member of the headquarters staff the following day, Friday, September 27, and he said there was damage to the underside left of the front bumper. He said he would review the issue and get back to me. On Saturday September 28 a Mr Bryan Goldsmith from Thrifty/Hertz emailed me to say they had reviewed the case and they would reduce the cost of repair to €595.32. They sent a photograph of the so-called damage which amounted to a scuff mark on the underside of the front spoiler. How that could have cost more than €5 to repair beats me. Anyway, I am handing it over to my solicitor as I regard this as nothing short of extortion. I work as a journalist writing for a national newspaper and I intend to highlight my experience and warn people about this highly questionable practice. I will be recommending to people that they get the bus, the train or a taxi but to avoid car rental "

I asked for a particular model they had in the category I was renting that had a good entertainment system that was compatible with my phone and I was given a standard basic model with none of the extras like the model I rented before. I asked to change for another car and was told nothing else was available. Another customer arrived after me and recieved the high spec model I was looking for and left with the car. I asked about this to the agent that told me nothing else was available when it clearly was and his response was he was a gold member customer. " I like AutoEurope a lot, use it exclusively to book rentals in Europe (which I do a few times a year). I feel like it's very transparent - you know what you're getting, you get what you paid for, the vouchers work every time and everywhere I've tried to use them (multiple times at several agencies in each of Ireland and France). And there's a clear financial benefit over booking directly with the agencies. "
" It was OK, but the car was a bit on the small side: the trunk only had room for two suitcases (barely - one medium, one small), and because we decided to add a third small case, ended up having to put it into the passenger seat. It felt pretty cramped. Part of the problem is that when you're choosing the size of car, it says "Like Nissan Micra". But I live in the US, where the Micra is not available. So it actually was a bit smaller than I would choose next time, and what would help is if you could give comparisons using models available where the user lives. After all, with Thrifty, I know it's not really going to be Nissan Micra or Qashqai, it's going to be a Hyundai or Dacia Duster. So I'm not hung up on getting a particular model, just want to make sure it's the right size. "

Had to find someone in the rental yard, no body arounsd so it took a while, to address. - When I got in the car and turned it on the car was only 3/4 full with fuel, no time left to report this as I had already lost time trying to report the undocumented marks, again no one around if I had the time, so, got caught to fill up the tank by this extra amount I did not use as car had to be returned with the tank "full". - Extra day charged to my credit card as I returned the car at 2pm, the time stated on the Rental Record. On checking I was told that, as, I'd collected the car early, ahead of my original reserve time of 2pm. I collected at 1.20pm I was charged the extra day as I'd over ran. NO ONE told me I had to return the car earlier and the rental agreement I signed at the counter has "Collection time" 13.18 "Return Time" 14.00. My receipt has return time at 13.56 and I was waiting a good while to have the car checked back in as there was no body in the returns area when I arrived. "

" When parked at a gas station in Ireland. The car got slightly hit with a door from the car parked beside us. We called the police and got all the information from the person who hit the car. We took pictures with the rental's car company camera. We also submitted pictures and videos from our own devices. Even-though I was not at fault, a few days after the drop-off, Thrifty charged us with almost 800 Euros.(When Thrifty sent the breakdown of repairs; they repaired the whole car for other damages as well as adding towing fees; which I don't know why and where all of those came from). I contacted directly my Credit Card company to work on the insurance from their side and claimed that money back to me. 2 months later my bank and credit card could give me my money back. After-all; This was a really bad experience. If it was not thanks to my bank and credit card coverage they would have never returned that money back to me. In addition; Thrifty contacted me back 4 or 5 months after, telling me that this case had been solved and would deal directly with my Credit Card provider. I still rent cars quite often, but have always avoided renting any cars from Hertz or Thrifty. I would never recommend to anyone use this company. "

" Really fed up that the car I was allocated on arrival was one with no seat Height adjustment effectively making it undrivable for me. The last time this happened I was immediately allocated a car with the necessary adjustment at no extra cost. On this occasion however that was just not happening and the desk clerk got into a explanation about car classes A,B,C.... and pointing to a visual vehicle selector sheet etc. ... The upshot was if I wanted a driveable car I had to upgrade at by extra daily charge of E15 to a larger car. I failed to see the relevance in the clerk telling me that he didn't have seat height adjustment in his own car except to exemplify his inability to stand inside my specific shoes and predicament. Given my previous experience of the no quibble change to a model with the necessary seat height adjustment I was left feeling exploited on this occasion. Since return I can find no Thrifty/Hertz or AutoEurope websites that gives information about which classes of cars have seat HEIGHT adjustment. I'm not a car geek and I really don't care about cars more than knowing whether it has 4 wheels and I can drive it. In my view there is a big gap in accessibility, in terms of your services, for those of us who need this type of information. I would really appreciate greater transparency and/or coherence between the car descriptors given on hire websites which all seem to use the terms mini, economy, midsize, large, estate/suv, luxury... and a car class system A,B,C..... used at the rental desks. So now, I respectfully request that you signpost me to the car models in the lower economy/ compact/ mini/ and midsize categories that have seat HEIGHT adjustment as standard. I would also appreciate if you could advise me how much autonomy desk clerks have in determining how to handle my situation should it arise again and in particular whether, in general, there is an element of 'commission payment' in how their performance is rewarded. " I think that AutoEurope are provided a good service, especially for those of us who want to buy excess insurance. However, it is clear that companies like Hertz/Thrifty view AutoEurope with some hostility, as in their dealings with me, they continually tried to shift the blame for the situation onto AutoEurope, who clearly were not responsible. Yes, I had misread the AutoEurope site and thought the navigation device would be free, but no, I hadn't signed anything before actually being misled and accepting that I would pay for the device. Thrifty knows damn well that I am entitled to change my mind between the time I request the device on AutoEurope's site and the time I pick up the device, but they pretended not to know if I would be paying for the device, suggesting instead that AutoEurope may or may not be charging me for it. I told them that AutoEurope had not charged me for it, and even then, Thrifty still didn't tell me it was they themselves who would actually be making the charge. Misleading is about the nicest thing I can say about that. "
" The problem was not with the car, but with the treatment I received from Thrifty/Hertz staff at Cork Airport. I had asked for a navigation device on the AutoEurope website when making my reservation, thinking it was free. When I was at the Thrifty/Hertz desk to collect, I made it abundantly clear that I did not want a navigation device if it cost anything. Rather than supporting me, as you might expect a decent customer service person to do, the Thrifty staff misled me into thinking I wasn't paying anything and got me to sign the contract. It was only a day before returning the car that I realised I had actually been charged for the navigation device. I complained to the supervisor on returning the car, but he basically aggressively made me out to be a liar and refused to give me a refund. I eventually did get a refund, after contacting Hertz Ireland's claims department, but the whole experience had been soured by then. These two members of staff did quite the opposite of what they should have been doing - instead of listening to me and helping me, the first went out of her way to mislead me, and the second thought he could bully me into submission. I was flabbergasted at these sad people and left wondering if this could really be their company's policy and sales model. Luckily I found someone who was prepared to help me, though somewhat reluctantly, at the Hertz Ireland claims office. Also a shout out for the guy who actually handed me the car and to whom I returned it. He was perfectly pleasant. "

But later I checked the voucher and saw I should have received a 4-door vehicle with space for 1 large bag and 1 small bag in the trunk, but I was given a 2-door car with very little trunk space. I feel I was not given what the contract said, instead I got a car in a lower class. I believe I should be compensated for this, e.g. by receiving a free upgrade in a future car hire. " Since January, i had to rent a car, on day 26 i got told to re hire the car the system would not let me. i then called to the office on day 27 as the co driver was only available to re rent the car then, i explained I could not either do a re rental or a new rental and was never told that they were going to charge me three times the rate. had they explained this i could have gone on line again or telephoned to book new booking. so one mont h cost me 134 and 12 days ver 260, to add insult the guy behind the counter took a call and put his feet up and chatted for ten minutes while we were waiting for the manual contract to be finished. not good enough. then when returning the car i asked was it ok to drop it back to wexford to be told yes. no warning it would cost me 70 euro extra i could have left it in kerry and used public transport instead. i parent alone and my boys have autism and i didnt have the finances to be messed about by the service of Europecar, hertz and thrifty. i will email another way too with screen shots of how the system would not let me book a car. regards an unhappy customer Pamela Barrett, David Fitzgibbon "

" My experience with the Trifty car rental company I have to say was disappoint and the way they treat my booking issue. I was travelling from New Jersy to Dublin. As of the extreme weather conditions my flight was deverted to Bristol when we stayed over night and next day the flight was deverted to Shannon airport in Clare. I contacted Trifty rent a car from Bristol to let them know about my challenge to goner my booking but it was no response on my email or call back on my call . Next day morning I made a call to Trifty Dublin and I was told to call the Shannon airport office . I spoke with one of the gentleman and I was told to come over to the desk and he will look after me. When I arrived to the Shannon I was offered to pay 380? for car "

" Price was fantastic, the only thing i would mention to your customers who arent getting the providers full insurance is to STRESS to them to ask for the Vehicle Inspection Report at the time of picking up the vehicle and to inspect the car thoroughly before leaving as I had to ask for the report as it was not volunteered and had to add things to it that were not noticed in the companies so called pre inspection. But yes i would 100% rent again for your price with your insurance as price is obviously the most important thing "

My husband was given car as a gift from my mum who made the booking via her debit card - on arrival he provided a debit card for insurance for the car as opposed to a credit card and was advised of the charge of in excess of 2k that would be taken from his account and re credited if there was no issues. He noted that he did not have these funds spare in an account and offered debit card of my mother who purchased the gift on her debit card - neither option was acceptable. He assured me (in writing) that the tank was full although the guage said it was less than 1/4 tank. he knew I was a retired woman travelling alone in the evening to the West of Ireland.
