On arrival at the Hertz desk in Orlando, I was informed that what was included in my rental agreement was that I had taken the pre-paid full tank option which was included in my agreement and they advised me to bring the car back empty. In other words, I didn't have to replace the fuel that was used. They also tried to sell me additional cover for wheels, glass, tyres, roof and undercarriage insurance, which was included in my agreement with Autoeurope. Very underhanded in my opinion to extract further costs. After returning the car, I noticed there was an added charge to my final receipt of $63 for a full tank of gas. So, instead of owing nothing at the end of my rental, $63 was taken from my credit card. I was not happy, to say the least! I felt I had been ripped off. "

" Pick up was a joke, went to counter to be told we were to go downstairs to Hertz Awards and 'choose car' - I had specifically chosen car when booking (standard size SUV). Went downstairs to where the cars were supposedly - long queue and no cars available, We queued for an hour, we were asked would we taken sedan as no SUVs. Couple in front said they'd take sedan - it appeared and they were given keys - only problem it had a flat tyre! We eventuality took an SUV but it was a small SUV with a small boot so we had to sit with a suitcase in the back between us and rucksacks on floor so no leg room (for a 3 hr drive). It was 1 hour 40 before we left the car rental. I've never seen anything like it, what's the point in booking at all if there are no cars. We had used Hertz the previous year in Baltimore and it was great but after this will not use them again. There was no explanation or apology offered. "

" As a frequent traveler I normally don't feel uncomfortable travelling alone in the UK or USA - but this experience with my hire car at Hertz left me feeling insecure and taken advantage of. At the pick up desk in Boston Airport I was told by the agent that my electric car would available upstairs - and when I said I had not booked an electric vehicle the agent then said there were not many cars left in the economy section and so there were only electric cars left - or "99% electric so no choice". He explained I could get an upgrade to a larger vehicle and class, and that he could discount the daily rate but I was unhappy at the extra costs and said but that was not what I had budgeted for or booked, and the agent said I had booked a class of vehicle but not whether it was electric or gas powered. I disagreed, but was left with the feeling that I had been targeted as a lone female traveller in a foreign country who would not want the uncertainty of driving an electric vehicle and dealing with unfamiliar charging station locations and procedures. I was left feeling that I had no option other than to take the upgrade and substantial increase payment to get a vehicle close to what I had ordered. In hindsight I should have challenged the agent by sticking with the economy class I had booked and going ahead upstairs into the car garage to see if it was indeed true that there were no gas cars left - but I had waited in line for the ONE and ONLY Hertz agent at the desks and did not want to add any more delay time to my journey. So I very reluctantly paid the extra $20 per day rate (an extra $244 total) and proceeded to pick up a car. I was left with a bad feeling of being taken advantage of by the male agent - and had the distinct impression that this was 'normal practice' and he had used this scenario of '99%only electric vehicles left in the economy range' before to get more money for the bookings. No doubt he gets some sort of additional commission. I love using Auto Europe as a car booking agency - but will NEVER use HERTZ again. "

" Horrendous...I specifically looked for a large SUV...it was named as a Chevy Tahoe on the AutoEurope website. I payed for a vehicle like that. I arrived in Washington to be told that I had paid for an L4 class vehicle which was a mid-sized suv which was not at all suitable for my needs. I showed them my voucher where it stated a Chevy Tahoe...the Hertz lady showed me her screen where it stated L4 class. I tried ringing AutoEurope for assistance, got no response as it was middle of night in Europe. We rang a hertz customer care - they also said the rental was for an L4 class. I therefore had to pay to upgrade the vehicle to the class I had been led to believe I had booked. The following morning I emailed auto Europe, they said they'd look into it and then in subsequent emails I was told they couldn't because hertz had L4 class on their system. I am so annoyed and frustrated not to mention cross as I feel I was duped by AutoEurope and they perpetrated fraud by selling me a vehicle that wasn't the vehicle I got!! "

Given inaccurate directions to the cars location When I saw the car I was shocked- it was to my eyes a banger- I videoed the car from record purposes. The smell inside the car was bad. I drove off and could instantly tell that the cars shocks we shot. My daughter in the back was getting shaken up. When I applied the brakes the grinding was very bad and it really scared me. This car was unroadworthy and if I had been stopped by a policeman-I would have been open to being prosecuted for driving a dangerously defective vehicle . I drove very carefully to MCO and returned the car. I was given a Chevy Transverse a car that I had previously driven. It was a car in much better shape and condition but again it could have been newer and fresher. But having started at such a low point in Stanford, I decided against wasting anymore of my vacation on dealing with Hertz "

" I rang Hertz pick up point to advise I would be a couple of hours late collecting car. They told me they no longer had my car as it was more than 30 min after the pick up time even though it was prepaid but to 'come down and see what they could do'. When I got there they gave me another similar car. A warning should be given at booking time about giving exact pick up times in central New York. Difficult to do when you are traveling a distance and booking in advance. "
