    Winter Driving Tips

If you are planning on taking a road trip this winter, you need to be sure that your vehicle is winter ready and that you are well prepared for your trip. You may feel comfortable driving your vehicle along the roads that you have travelled many times in summer; however, the driving conditions can be harsh and sometimes unexpected so it’s best to make sure your car is safe before you set off. Preparing for the journey:

    1. Plan your route, checking for any weather warnings and traffic alerts.Winter

    2. Check your vehicle, making sure you have the correct amount of anti-freeze, and that your tyres are in a roadworthy condition. You should also test the lights on the vehicle.

    3. Make sure you travel with an ice-scraper, and de-icer, and that your mobile phone is fully charged.

    During your journey

    1. Always drive at a safe speed, be aware of the road condition and adapt your driving.

    2. If you do experience flooding on the roads be sure to test your brakes once you have passed through the water.

    3. Try and stick to the main roads as these are often maintained with grit to prevent skidding, and are often kept clear of snow.

Often countries have their own rules on winter driving and how a vehicle should be equipped to deal with the season.
Throughout the winter months, car hire companies may need to change the tyres on their rental vehicles to ensure your safety. The cost of this change tends to be charged directly to you, the renter, at the time of collection.
However, Auto Europe have been successful in obtaining a number of special rates from our partners that include the winter tyre package.
