A relaxing day on the beach isn’t everyone’s cup of tea when it comes to planning their holidays. Urban Exploration has been on the rise in recent years, and while it remains the domain of a relatively small niche, more and more people seem to be trying out this exciting and dangerous hobby.
If you’re in any main European city, there are plenty of sites to explore with your car hire in Berlin or your car hire in Paris. Urban Exploration is a form of tourism that occupies itself with the exploration of derelict buildings in an urban setting and there are several things you should keep in mind before engaging in it!
First of all, be safe: let someone know where you are, carry a mobile phone with you, as well as a first aid kit. Second, dress appropriately! You want to avoid scratches and cuts, so heavy clothing is ideal. You should also wear gloves and a dust mask.
Bottled water and a torch light are also mandatory, and you never know when you might need some rope, so you should probably carry that too. Whenever possible, request the owner’s permission to visit the site, so as not to get in trouble for trespassing.
Most important of all, do your research: know what’s going on before you go in, make sure the structure is holding and that you’re safe every step of the way. Leave the site as you found it, for future visitors. Many urban explorers adhere to the following motto: take only pictures, leave only footprints.
Also, don’t forget to have fun!
