Driving a car is something that most of us do on a daily basis; it’s a means to an end. However driving a car along a sweeping coastal road with the sun gleaming down and the ocean waters twinkling is a drive that dreams are made of!
Here are our top 5 dream drives:
1 – California Dreaming
Not just a great song but a great way to see the West Coast of America. You could spend a lifetime driving up and down this fabulous US coast. We recommend collecting a hire car at San Francisco Airport and driving to Los Angeles. It’s worth stopping by one of the surf beaches along the way and watching the locals ride the waves.
2 – The Garden Route
South Africa’s Eastern Cape is home to a beautiful stretch of road called The Garden Route. The fauna along the route is simply breathtaking and you can stop off at quaint beaches along the way. The coastal road is a great place to see whales, so do remember to pack a pair of binoculars and get watching for the spurts.
3 – Viva La Espana
If time weren’t an issue we would recommend driving the whole coastline of Spain; but in reality most people have only two weeks in which to cram in as much as they can. Southern Spain is the best place to get your value for money. Along the stretch they call Costa del Sol, you can drive the glitzy and glamorous roads of Marbella or cruise along the more relaxed roads of Nerja.
4 – Great Ocean Road
This is by far one of the most famous ocean roads in the world. Anyone that enjoys a trip down under has the Great Ocean Road on their ‘to-do’ list. The amazing costal journey, which links Melbourne and Adelaide, is home to the 12 Apostles, Bells Beach, Rainforests and lots of great tourist stop offs.
5 – Good Old Blighty
Who says we have to travel hundreds of miles on a plane to enjoy a sunny coastal drive? Well ok the sun may not be a 100% guarantee but along England’s Southern Coast you can take in the sights, smells and sounds of Mother Nature doing what she does best. The White Cliffs of Dover are within a two hours drive from London and from there you can cruise along the almost Mediterranean like coastline towards Bournemouth and Plymouth.
