Its summer time, which can mean only one thing on the gorgeous island of Malta; Festival time! Don’t you feel more at touch with a country’s culture once you have joined in with a festival or two?
The Maltese islands are a great place to visit any time of the year, however when its festival time you can feel the electricity in the air! From the month of June, right through to September there are many religious festivals. Drive your car hire in Malta to one of the villages on Gozo and you can take part in the Victory Day celebrations. Every year on the 8th September the villages and towns of; Senglea, Naxxar, Mellieha and Xaghra hold a feats in honour of the Holy Virgin, Maria Bambina’s birth. It is a colourful event that even includes a rowing boat race from the Grand Harbour!
If you are a lover of food and wine; and let’s face it who isn’t! Then you will enjoy the Dellcata Wine Festival and Nadur Festivals that takes place the first week in August, the festivals are held at the Upper Barrakka Gardens in Valletta in Nadur, Gozo. You can also listen to live music acts whilst you sample the locally grown produce.
In Valletta, on the 8th September there is a festival called; Maria Bambina / II-Vitorja. This festival celebrates the victory of the Great Siege back in 1565! The main event is held at the Grand Harbour and is a national rowing race. Valletta also has a fantastic Jazz festival each year that is a great pick for those who love to the dance the night away. Make sure you make it down to the waterfront of an evening. The historic buildings are lit up; making the place seem simply magical!
