    Tenerife: North vs South

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, located in-between the coastlines of Southern Spain and North-west Africa. Its placement here provides the island with a varied landscape and a clear climate divide. This island has visitors from across the globe, all looking to experience fun, adventure and culture.

    North Tenerife

The climate of the north can be an unpredictable one; one day you could be soaking up the sun on Santa Cruz’s man-made beach, and the next you could be apartment-bound watching the storm pass you by. But do not let this put you off holidaying in the north, as this is where you can enjoy the island’s most beautiful fauna landscape.
The main city of the north is La Laguna; here you can walk the streets of this UNESCO heritage-listed city centre and visit the beautiful Cathedral. Just a quick tip: no cars are allowed through the designated historic centre, so it’s best to park up your vehicle and head about on foot.

    South Tenerife

If it’s culture, relaxation and rest you are looking for, then stay well clear of Tenerife’s busiest resort: Playa de las Americas! It’s famed for the long road of pubs and bars called Veronicas, as well as for its volcanic black sandy beaches. The resort also attracts a large number of families, as the hotels often cater to them with kiddie clubs and all- inclusive resorts.

There is a little history hidden away in the South. The town of Los Cristianos was once a small fishing village and, unlike its vibrant neighbour, it has managed to hold onto its roots with some of the older buildings showcasing original Canarian architecture designs.

But let’s get down to the nitty gritty of why the South sees more tourist per year than the North; it’s the weather! You are promised all year warm temperatures, with summer being hot and winter being mild, and most years this promise is delivered.

    Somewhere in the middle

To hire a car in Tenerife and not venture into the desert-like landscape of the middle is a crime, for it is here that you will find the magnificent Teide National Park. The park is home to Mount Teide, Spain’s largest mountain peak, and if you want to reach the top of it we recommend hitching a ride on the cable car, because at 3,718 meters high, well that’s some walk!

Tenerife is an island that blooms on its reputation of being versatile and it can clearly boast that. No matter what type of holiday you are looking for, Tenerife has it!
