    Forthcoming Spanish Festivals

Spanish festivalThe Spanish love a festival. From bull running to flamenco dancing and fireworks. We have put together a list of some festivals happening in September and October that would make a great excuse for a short break.

Semana Grande in Gandia, Valencia – 28th September to 3rd October
Gandia is a coastal town in Valencia. The traditional character known as the Guy with the Truncheon takes the children out of the schools to start the festival. Over the 5 days there are theatrical and musical performances, processions and sports, culminating in a grand firework display on the river on the final night.

Bienal de Flamenco, Seville – 15th September to 9th October
Staged every two years since 1980 this festival of flamenco dance, guitar and singing has become a big attraction with performances at the 2008 festival 95% sold out!

O Grove Seafood Festival, Pontevedra – 1st to 12th October
Galicia’s annual fish and seafood festival is not to be missed. Enjoy giant mussels or steaming clams with a bowl of saffron rice whilst watching Galician-Portuguese folk dancing. There are also magnificent granite sculptures created for the International Symposium of Open Air Sculpture to be admired.

Annual Horror and Fantasy Film Festival, San Sebastian – 30th October to 5th November
Lots of new films for horror fans to enjoy, as well as exhibitions, street theatre and, to lighten the mood, comedy events.
