Only a 25 minute drive from Dublin is the seaside town of Bray. Referred to as the gateway to the Garden of Ireland, here you can take a scenic cliff walk along the eastern side of Bray Head. Kilruddery House and gardens are also worth a visit here.
Drive further inland to visit Athlone. Located along the River Shannon this historic town has a beautiful church and a pub, Sean’s Bar, which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest pub in Europe.
An hour north of Dublin is Glendalough. The town is a glacial valley and famous for its monuments. Here you will find a round tower, a cathedral, a priests’ house and a large number of churches.
