    Christmas Market Cheer in Switzerland

If you fancy visiting one of Europe’s Christmas Market countries, then why not take a winter holiday in Switzerland? Although Germany may have the bragging rights on having the first Christmas Market, Switzerland put on some fantastic events that have already begun.

Pack those winter woollies and get ready to enjoy some festive cheer!

    Christmas Market

    Zurich Christmas Markets

    November 19 – 24 December

There are a number of Christmas markets on across the city. To see the most glamorous of trees, head to Zurich Main Station. On display is a 50ft tree with 7,000 Swarovski crystals decorating its branches! The market is indoors, so regardless of the winter weather, you can still enjoy the festivities inside.

    Basel Christmas Markets

    November 26 – 23 December

This festive season sees the Old Town streets of Barfusserplatz beautifully lined with lush pine trees. A new addition to the winter fun in Basel this year is the “Advent Street”. Opened on the 25th November and running through to Christmas Eve, here you will enjoy festive food and drink.

As a plus, they also have an exciting programme of events just for the kids.

    Montreux Christmas Markets

    November 20 – 24 December

With the dramatic backdrop of the Alps and located on the shore line of the stunning Lake Geneva, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in a Christmas card scene when visiting the Montreux Christmas Markets! This is a great family market as they have a post office just for Santa, a village for elves and a reindeer park! If that isn’t enough to fill the day, you can enjoy a stroll through the charming medieval market stalls and sample the local food and buy gifts.

    Geneva Christmas Markets

    November 21 – 24 December

This chic and cosmopolitan city certainly puts on a Christmas treat for all to enjoy! Geneva hosts an International Christmas Market; with handmade gifts and food from all around the globe. Traditional quaint wooden chalets line the city’s main street and there is an annual Christmas Tree Festival that takes place here. You can also have a go at ice-skating in the city’s outdoor ice rink.
