Basic Tips for Your Car Booking

Here at Auto Europe we always try to make the process of booking a car hire as easy as possible. This applies to our website as well as a booking made over the phone.

In this blog we try to answer frequently asked questions and explain the basics of car hire. We present some useful tips to make your car hire as easy and simple as possible.

Here is some general advice, for example: when you are booking a car rental to drive in the U.S. or in Spain.

    Deposit

The deposit is a fixed amount, which is blocked at the time of collection of the rental car on the credit card of the main driver. The credit card MUST be the name of the main driver issued!

Please check the credit limit of your card before you collect your vehicle. When the limit on your credit card is lower than the deposit the supplier can refuse to give you’re the vehicle or ask that you take out additional insurance locally. This reduces the deductible in the event of an accident.

The deposit is normally equal to the height of a tank of fuel + deductible + VAT. You can call usto confirm the amount that will be blocked on your credit card. For detailed information, you can also directly contact the depot you are collecting from.

    Damage

Regardless of the chosen insurance, you should always check for any existing damage when you collect the vehicle. Anything you do find should be noted on the rental agreement form – even the minor scratches!

    Fuel

Check the fuel level in the tank. If the tank is not full as stated on your paperwork then you must advise the depot staff immediately and have them note this on your rental agreement.

    Receipts / vouchers

Save all petrol receipts or car washes-proof. In the event of a claim, hand these back with the vehicle.

    Unpaved Roads

Avoid driving on unpaved roads. The insurance company is not liable for ensuing damages.

    Speed

Keep within the speed limit at all times. If you are caught speeding from a speed camera then it may take some months after your return for the supplier to charge and notify you of this. The supplier will apply a admin fee for any paperwork they have to send to you.

    Breakdown

Towing charges are not included in your rental. It is advisable to choose a roadside assistance that includes towing from abroad.

Our Number One Tip: You can contact us by phone at any time; this can be before, during and after your rental.
