Athens in a Weekend

Greece is one of the world’s top tourist destinations. Athens is the main core and starting point for most trips to Greece so why not spend a weekend discovering its many treasures?

To enjoy this beautiful city, the key is to arrive early enough on Friday and leave as late as you can on Sunday or even Monday morning. Start your holiday with a car hire at Athens airport so that you can benefit from the freedom from the start of you holiday plus an easy onward journey to your hotel.

The most significant site in Athens is the Acropolis with the Pantheon, a temple dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena. Another unmissable attraction is the National Archaeological Museum which was founded at the end of the 19th century and house antiquities from all over Greece.

While there are plenty of things to do in Athens, you should check out the near cities which are excellent for day trips. The island of Hydra is a good choice for food lovers and nightlife, while the historic sites at Mycenae, Epidaurus or Sounion are great choices if you want to learn more about the Greek history. Just a short drive from Athens is the busy port of Rafina. The town is home to a nice beach and plenty of restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Greek food, from fried squid to small fried fish.
