Are you ready for Ireland's Eclipse Tomorrow?

By now we should have all seen the news of this magnificent display that is a partial solar eclipse. It is due to affect Ireland early tomorrow morning and we should all be ready.

The last time Ireland had a noteworthy eclipse was in August 1999, however tomorrow one is said to be even more spectacular with over 90% of the Sun to be blocked out by the moon.

If you are in Dublin the start of the event will be 08:24 and last until 09:29. If you’re in the area of the Trinity College, they are holding an organised event with telescopes and allowing free use of their eclipse glasses. The eclipse is due to show also in Belfast and Derry at 08:26, lasting up to one hour.

We have all been advised not to look directly at the eclipse as it could damage our eyes, protection from normal sun glasses is of no use. One of the safest way to enjoy the view is through a pin point projector. Selfies are a huge no no!

Do expect the temperature to dip during the eclipse; we have been told that the current fog we are experiencing will not affect this rare sight.

This is, indeed, a rare treat and I’m sure most of us will be looking to the skies tomorrow morning. It has been documented that the next total eclipse will not be until the year 2600, so for most this may be our last chance to enjoy an eclipsed sky.
