5 Fun & Free Travel Apps

The majority of people these days travel with a smartphone, with most regarding it as more important than their passport! Today’s phones allow us to check-in to a flight, book a restaurant and of course take those favourite holiday photos.

After much playing on our iPhones and Android devices, we have all agreed that these 5 apps are a must for any keen traveller:

    Waze

This app combines our love of social media with the need to not get lost. With the app open, you can avoid the traffic jams and get to the nearest petrol station whilst using the least amount of fuel. If your friends also use the app, you can see where they are and have a meet up or drive the other way to avoid them!

    Onavo

This is perfect for anyone who is addicted to checking their emails whilst on holiday. We are all well aware that data roaming charges aren’t great and this handy app shrinks the amount of data required to open an app or download a file; it even has reports to show you which of your apps are eating all of your data usage.

    Xe.Currency

Wondering how many US Dollars you can get for your Euros? This app is such an easy one to use and understand that there is no point wasting your time trying to find a better one. The app allows you to set a base currency and with its ‘shake to update’ tool you are sure to always get the most update exchange rate.

    Weatherwise

The one thing we can’t book before we travel is the weather; unless you’re heading over to London, then the bet is it will be raining so be sure to pack an umbrella! You can install this cool looking app and personalize the images it shows. It comes with a few standard themes, including a Zen Tree, and the option to buy more themes.

    Google Translate

Ever ordered a 7UP and been brought something completely different? It’s one of the best things about travelling in a country whose native language is nothing like your own! This app has 64 languages stored and you can type or speak the text you need translating. You can try speaking the translation or take advantage of the full screen mode and show the waiter what it is you want to drink!

All of these apps are available for free on your IPhone and Android handsets; if you have any other app you would like to suggest then let us know.
