" I have booked a Jeep from the Auto Europe website. This turned out to be an electric car ( not made clear on Auto Europe web page). On the Hertz counter I was told this is an electric car, since I am not sure if charging station and charge time, I decline to take it. I was first offered an alternative and was told it would cost £50, I asked if there is a cheaper alternative, a Suzuki was offered on £40. I took the offer thinking it was £40 for the duration since the car is even smaller than the Jeep I initially choose. Everything was set and I was given a voucher to sign. Since I was in a hurry and therefore not looked at the small print before signing. Only upon returning the car two days later I found out that the change of car has costed me £120 plus VAT. I think Hertz is not very ethical. Furthermore, I returned the car after just two days, and Hertz has not refund me for one day unused change. I am disappointed, but I did not make a direct complaint to Hertz because I signed the voucher without carefully looking at the numbers. Partly my fault. However, this change of car and the excessive charge is something I am not very happy with. "

" There was little choice when we arrived and the vehicle we were allocated had a lot of scratches/marks/dents (more than ten) and a piece of side trim missing. The car drove well but gearstick was difficult to use. When we were refuelling the car to full we noticed the fuel button did not read to the top (a little under). On returning it, a staff member checked it over. I overheard 'Asif' say to this staff member 'that vehicle never registers as full'. The first staff member then asked me to sign on a tablet showing only a signature box and email and date. I did not want to sign a document I could it see and asked for a printed receipt with Hertz. Then 2 staff members went in to do this then one came out to say that the other was going to charge £35 for fuel but that he had cleared it up. I now have an email showing this charge and separately a printed receipt showing zero as due. I just feel that whole fuel business was a scam being operated and am waiting to see what happens to the 250e being held on my card which I have to wait for up to ten days to be returned. I have the fuel receipt and the printed receipt showing zero due and will not accept this false charge if it is made. "

I didn't take this as only wanted the car for a short journey and a few hours. Hence, they were able to charge my card for damages that never occurred. This wasn't a leisure trip and the initial experience added to an already stressful day. And to find myself €400 out of pocket on Monday morning, put a bad taste in my mouth. I will need to do this trip again shortly but will not be booking with Auto Europe nor Hertz. "

" I booked an economy car( Corsa). I was given a Toyota Aygo...too small for me and classed as a Mini in AutoEurope list. Hertz insisted the Aygo is on same class as Corsa. " I had a problem with the original booking. I received a mail with a booking reference but when I opened the attachment a couple of days before pick up I noticed it said cancelled on it. I rang up and was advised it was likely that my card was not accepted. I had no way of knowing this unless I opened the attachment. I was offered a more expensive alternative I asked to speak to a manager and while on hold I had to hang up. The manager did ring me back and sort it for me at the same price. I used the same card to pay and there was no problem. It should be clearer online that you need to make sure you open the email and the attachment with your booking reference to make sure it has gone through. Apparently there should be a confirmation email as well as the booking reference email but I never noticed this info online when ordering so perhaps it should be clearer "

" Hertz in Newcastle were going for picking up near the airport and informing us that there were two garages approaching Leeds Bradford airport on the way down for filling up with petrol. However, both garages were closed for repairs and when we got to Leeds Bradford airport the Hertz rep said the charge for the additional petrol (our tank was three-quarters full would be 26 euro versus an estimated 8-10 euro if we filled up from a garage. However, the nearest garage was a 20 minute journey. As we were early we took instructions form him and despite traffic arrived at the location he instructed to find no garage there. We circled for a while and asked locals, but no-one knew of the garage so we ended up going back to the airport. "

" I could not rent the car from hertz as they would not accept the paper part of my license and my passport for id. They stated that i needed my photo card license.
