" 1. Poor experience in booking in. Huge delay because their system would not accept my Visa card to "block off" the excess amount. There was a glitch in the Hertz system because the operator was not using the correct method to verify my Visa (1st time ever). They would not use my wife's card either as she was not named on the voucher. I eventually had to transfer funds into my "Debit" card to cover the "excess". I was then informed by my bank that Hertz had not followed the right protocols to "block" off the funds for the excess. Hertz was required to get "pin" number verification from me to authorise the "excess" amount. 2. The car went very well and the return process was seamless and damage sheet with "zero" was signed off ... very happy with that 3. The vehicle was not returned full, so was expecting a fuel debit (and electronic toll debit). These invoices were emailed to me and automatically debited off my Visa ..... then the TROUBLE BEGAN! 4. On 7th October I received 14 x consecutive debits from HERTZ for R295 each for a total of R4130. I received NO Documentation (invoice or Statement) from Hertz giving reason or evidence for the debits. I tried to cancel the debits via my bank but was too late. I emailed Hertz customer services with details and query, but have not had an answer yet. 5. I am really concerned that HERTZ (or any car hire firm) can automatically DEBIT my Visa at any time after a car hire without evidence of me incurring the costs! How can I stop this from happening in the future. "

" Pick-up had a hitch which was outside Hertz's control (bank likes the card PIN to be entered failing which it flags a security alert and blocks the card). A rather painful and very costly experience to phone the bank to remedy this. There was no POS terminal in the branch for the card PIN to be entered. Drop-off was pretty straightforward BUT although the person accepted the returned vehicle, and was happy that the vehicle was fueled up and indicated that I would receive an email shortly confirming that vehicle was returned in good order - I am still waiting for the mentioned confirmation. Per my online card statement I also have not yet received a refund of my 'deposit' which was required even though I elected the NO EXCESS COVER option. "

" It should be possible to extend a contract with Auto Europe and then telephone contact/email contact with the hire company should suffice, without the necessity to go to the Hertz office for the extension to contract to commence. I wanted to extend my hire by 2 or 3 days as i was travelling a long distance from Cape Town, but in order to extend my contract I was advised that I had to attend at the Cape Town office to sign for the extension etc. As this required a long journey back to Cape Town it then became unnecessary to extend the hire period I sent query to Hertz regarding lost sunglasses, possibly left in the car when I returned it, but Hertz advised that the query had to come through your office. I would appreciate your help Thank you "
