" Auto Europe for their part have a defective complaints procedure. They sent links to webpages that did not exist and then told me to complain after the car hire contract ended. There is no customer service at Auto Europe, it is a joke. "
" Flex to go have very high cost hidden terms and conditions. This charge was not disclosed anywhere on Auto Europe's booking interface, nor when clicking for additional information. It was only after purchase, buried in the small print of Flex To Go's terms, that this exorbitant charge became apparent. To be clear: this is a hidden fee, and it constitutes a breach of transparency and consumer rights under EU law. Furthermore, Flex To Go's fee is completely out of line with standard industry practice. Most car rental companies charge between €7–€10 per day for cross-border use, usually capped at €30–€40. The excessive fee imposed here is a blatant example of sharp practice, and a pattern of similar complaints from other customers (see Trustpilot and other review sites) confirms that this is not an isolated incident. Nowhere in the booking process, confirmation documents, nor on Auto Europe's website's pre-booking interface, was it stated that there would be an additional fee of €150 to take the car across the border into Belgium. This is a 71% surcharge on top of the original rental cost--a staggering and wholly unexpected sum--which I only discovered after scouring the fine print buried deep within the supplier's terms and conditions. This kind of information is not a minor detail--it is material to a customer's decision to book. Had I known about this exorbitant cross-border fee before finalising the booking, I would have chosen a different provider. There are many other rental companies that do not impose such unreasonable charges, and I still have two days until the rental begins. In other words, I was effectively tricked into making a booking under false pretences. This constitutes a clear failure of transparency and arguably mis-selling under consumer protection standards. At best, it's a glaring omission; at worst, a deliberate act of concealment. I am now left in the position of either paying this outrageous hidden fee or scrambling to make alternative arrangements at the last minute--neither of which is acceptable. I did not go ahead with the car hire and I demanded a full refund, which I have not received. "

Reservation means to "hold something for ones use" In this case despite your Confirmed Reservation statement, no actual vehicle was reserved for me. There was no car available and it was only because I complained that efforts were made to find a vehicle. 2. Compact As you agreed, I had reserved a compact car. The definition of compact is small and conveniently shaped. The alternative I was given was neither small nor conveniently shaped, being too big to handle on small country roads and too high making it extremely difficult to find a suitable parking places. 3. Car v Van A car is a 4-wheel vehicle able to carry a small number of people. A van is a larger vehicle for transporting people or goods. So you are incorrect in your statement I was not offered an upgraded car. In summary if I had wanted an oversized van, I would have booked one. I wanted a compact car and that's what I reserved with you. However you did not reserve this or anything for me. Instead it was left for an assistant at the counter to give me anything she had. You have failed to deliver on our contract and I would hope you would make me some offer of recompense for your failure to honour my reservation. "

We were told that we really should top up the insurance as even a small scratch would leave us with a €1000 payment. Inurance options should be transparent at the time of booking. This happened to everyone waiting in line and most of them took extra insurance at a high daily charge. Does the staff at collection get commission? It was very unpleasant. Drop off was not explained properly. We gave car back at a different location and were told that there will be a drop off signed for as the office would be closed at the drop off time. There was a sign at the door, however we had to get out of the car at a busy road and double park to read the instructions for drop off. This could be emailed in advance. Then when dropping off the car we were told an email would follow but nothing was confirmed in writing that the car was given back. The deposit was returned a few days later without any notification. " The Auto Europe request form clearly stated that we would be driving in Austria and Italy (as I had specified). We then received the 'Confirmed Reservation' and a travel voucher. Looking back at this document I see that it states 'Travel to Austria' under the heading of comments. However, I presumed that the original information that I had provided was still part of the booking. When I was asked at the Europcar counter which countries we would be travelling to I said Austria and Italy. I was then told that I could not take a premium car (as booked) to Italy. As a result we ended up with a car that we would not have chosen and it was an unpleasant and stressful experience. Something happened between our booking and the confirmation by Europcar or AutoEurope that resulted in the information about Italy being removed/ignored. I don't know were the blame for that lies. The result was an unpleasant experience at pick up and ending up with the wrong car group. This is something that needs to be sorted out between Auto Europe and Europcar. "

" I was dismayed to receive an invoice for an additional cost of €242.51 from Hertz/Thrifty. I queried this amount and I am told it is for cross border fee and petrol. The cross border fee is €45. This means Hertz/Thrifty are charging €197.51 for less than a quarter tank of petrol used. I filled up the petrol tank the night before I returned the car. I intended to top up the petrol near the airport but I could not find a petrol station close. I have a photograph showing the petrol tank was more than three quarters full when I returned the car to Hertz/Thrifty. It is outrageous to invoice me this amount. Despite hanging around my hotel no one showed up. Later that day the car started. On Friday March 4th at 8.30am the car started and I travelled up to the ski slope car park. At 11am I returned to the car to travel to a different slope but the car would not start. I contacted Europcar and explained the situation. I was asked to stay with the car to wait on assistance. A mechanic arrived at 14.30. He was unable to start the car. He went away and returned with additional cables to try and start the car but was unsuccessful. He spoke to Europcar and explained the situation and informed Europcar that we were leaving the hotel at 6am on Sat 5th March to return to the Munich Airport. I was advised that I would either get a replacement car or a taxi would bring us to the airport. I eventually got a call to say that a taxi would pick us up at 6am on Sat 5th March. I received a call yesterday asking me what the problem was with the car to which I answered it would not start. I have not heard from Europcar with regard to any compensation for the inconvenience caused by this problem. I missed out on 2 days skiing out of a possible 6 because of the problem with the car. I would at least expect to receive a call from Europcar that can speak reasonable English to discuss this situation. "

" Happy with Auto Europe and have used them many times in the past. I would really appreciate your support should it be required in resolving the issue in relation to the damage that Enterprise/Alamo claim we caused, but I can categorically deny. "
" On collecting the car we were shown a Tablet that displayed red lines all along the right/passenger side and were informed jokingly that we could damage the right hand side and would not be liable. On seeing the car in the garage we noticed a little area on the sliding door that looked as if it had been polished but no other damage. I only received the rental agreement via E-Mail after we left the garage and this stated that there was only a little damage in the right hand side, not the full red lines as the agent suggested and showed us at the desk. Also the Fuel needle was showing as very low and hence we had to fill up fuel en route only to discover the gauge was faulty and once we put in a few litres and the pump indicated the tank was full the needle moved to full. On dropping off the car the third party service provider who checks the car immediately noticed a dent in the passenger side sliding door. There was no paint damage or scratches, just a dent. The agent claimed it was new however we did not cause it. I went back to the Enterprise/Alamo desk to explain the issue and was advised that the manager would take a look and contact me later. The dent in question was hard to see at full light when returning the car so I am not sure how we would have seen it in the poorly lit collection area. perhaps a ploy to get people to pay for damage. The following day I received an E-Mail from the manager (Mr. Slusarenko) who advised the dent was new. I corresponded with the manager advising him that it was not caused by us because the vehicle was parked up for the week and that the car that was parked beside ours in the Car Park at our apartment was also parked up for the week and was at least two metres away so damage would not have been caused by that car. The manager sent me pictures of previous damage caused to the same spot back in 2021 which would suggest the damage was never repaired correctly and the dent not removed just resprayed. The initial interaction at the counter was positive and the Agent (Leo) threw in the Cross Border and additional Driver for free, which I thought was a lovely gesture. Now I know how they recoup their costs, by trying to get us to pay for damage we did not cause. I believe this to be underhanded and sneaky and not a way to conduct business. If I do get charged for the damage I will never use Enterprise/Alamo again. Should we not get charged for the damage we did not cause my experience will be tainted by the claim we caused the damage my attitude to Enterprise somewhat more positive, as stated it was positive until we returned the car. "

" I sent this to hertz Munich Airport yesterday - We were given snow chains by your staff for the Citreon C5 Aircrosse SUV that were too small, these could not be fitted when we needed to use the car after heavy snow. Being parked on the top of a steep hill meant we could not use the car for 3 days as it was too dangerous to risk the standard tyres alone on the slippery ungritted road. It took 3 days to get suitable chains that did fit the tyres. We should have been given correct chains. We had to buy chains locally at €216 to get mobile again and drive back to Hertz Munich Airport. Mandy Kása Supervisor dealth with the problem and was very pleasant as were all your staff. We hope to be refunded this €216 and a refund for the 3 days we couldn't use the car. This was all a considerable inconvenience as we were self catering and commuting to the ski slopes in Ellmau Austria and had to make other arrangements. No one is angry about anything , we just could have done without the experience. We hope you will resolve the refunds as fast as possible, thank you, Kevin "

However, we received an Opel Corsa (good car) which did not have split rear seat. Yet the salesman at the Global desk continually pushed their full cover insurance and tried to undermine my belief that my excess was fully covered. " On your website I booked the category Volkswagen Passat Estate or similar. After booking I called Europcar/Keddy to make sure for a specific car. There I got the information that the category which I booked doesn't contain VW Passat Estate. It is not the first I see this with your offers. I had the same situation last year but there I just then paid the Upgrade to the Volkswagen Passat Estate. There I am not happy with you. Offering a category with a different car picture showing up. I am expecting to get this car what you advertise or very similar car. Passat is the category JWAR but we got Skoda Octavia which is the category IWAR. There I am very very unhappy. "
" We have already rented cars many times but this was one of the worst experience we ever had. For a Company like Europcar it is unacceptable. 3 bad things: 1. I arranged already via phone earlier (3-4 weeks in advance) to get a specific car. From the list For this category I asked for the Mazda 6 Estate or Hyundai i40. We got a Skoda Octavia. There were no other Cars available and she said that she hasn't seen Mazda for long time. Well why I get this offered on the phone? When we went down to the Garage there we saw 2x Hyundai i40 left - to the comment there are no other cars left! 2. Inside of the car we smelt cigarette. We have 2 kids and I had on this trip from Munich to Hamm - headache. 3. We waited 1.5 hours until we got our car. Totally bad service. "

" I am a customer of autoeurope fir about 15 years. Booking vehicles between 3 to 5 times a year. This is a second time I had an issue with global car rental. If you really want to make sure that your customers are satisfied and loyal ... you should avoid business partners like global. They will destroy your reputation and business. If I could I would like to log an official complaint. Again the vehicle wasn't worth price I had paid. Class below from what i had initially booked. Would like to request refund for the difference between classes. Without disrespect tou autoeurope but I think it's time to finish our cooperation. Ryanair website and many others offer similar deals or sometimes even better. We really had long and successful relationship but I feel that now it is a time to move . " Lady working on customer service counter extremely friendly and helpful 10/10 however.... we booked vehicle from compact class, similar to golf or focus. Vehicle offered to us was smaller and below class booked. How can you compare dacia sandero to golf or focus? We had 4 passengers and 2 suitcases and 4 paces of hand luggage. After negotiations desk agent offered us Opel crossland x again smaller than compact class but at least with slighty bigger luggage area. I presume astra will by within class initially booked by us. Another issue .... engine ....3 cylinder 1.0 or 1.2 engine totally without power especially with so much weight on board. You can find 3 cylinder engines in cars like yaris, aygo or corsa. Total disaster. Car haven't got internal carpets and screen wash. No navigation in standard as most vehicles currently. I feel that I am being ripped off or scammed. I had paid for compact and had received lower class vehicle. I really would like to find out how to get the money back for the difference between the vehicle class booked vs vehicle class offered. Return of vehicle.... smooth on general problem free. "

We refused to sign. If we had we would admit to it. Had to leave to catch flight. Yvonne the supervisor was not nice to deal with. Broken number plate when we oivcked up car. Asked her what damage was on car when we picked it up. She said there was none. When I mentioned broken number plate she said she was not aware of this. I asked how come they were so sure trim wasn't loose yet had no record of a very obvious broken number plate. So cross. " 1. Firstly it took almost 2 hours to collect the car once our flight had landed. We had to sit and wait with many others whilst over a hundred customers were dealt with. This took 2 hours off our holiday. Europcar simply did not have enough staff attending on clients. 2. Luckily we were advised by a friend to take photos of the car before the rental which we did. I noticed a small mark in the rear bumper prior to the rental and photographed this extensively. As we were now over two hours later than expected i did not report the mark to Europcar as it would have taken even longer however i do have the photos which are dated and time stamped. Upon drop off the Europcar agent noted the damage and stated 'it is not on our system' and essentially put the blame on me. I have emailed Europcar with the prior to rental photos and copied your company in that email also. Quite clearly Europcar are either not checking their vehicles prior to rental or are aware of such damage but do not record it sufficiently. This is disgraceful conduct. I will not be renting a car from Europcar again as a result. "

" autoeurope are my agent of choice, even if they are not always the best deal. the only problem i have had with them is that if a flight is rescheduled to arrive earlier, it is not possible to change the booking. you have to cancel it and re book at the relevant days increased cost. it should be made permissible to make minor corrections with no penalty, especially if these corrections are made months in advance "

Never before have I been asked to pay such a fee. If the rental car breaks down through no fault of mine, it is the rental car company's responsibility to recover the car and give me a replacement, Can you please contact Alamo and have them recredit my Visa card €48.00. " I lost my driving licence while travelling. This is obviously my own fault. However, Auto Europe were not contactable before my booking started. Enterprise staff were unable to help. When I finally got through to Auto Europe I was told that I couldn't be helped as the booking period had commenced. If you can't have working phone lines in the morning, you should at least have a working relationship with the people who work at the desks of your suppliers. In such situations a partial refund would be appropriate. You would have incurred some costs in arranging the car but no costs in wear and tear on the car and also it would have been available to rent to another customer. a 50-75% refund would be appropriate. Being contactable would be appropriate also. "

" We booked a Mercedes B class or equivalent. We received a Skoda Roomster. In no way are these cars an equivalent class. Despite complaining to the assistant at the desk the only option offered would have cost extra. When we tried to fill the fuel tank the tank cap wouldn't unlock. The car manual was in slovakian so couldnt offer any assistance. After 10 minutes we reluctantly gave up and proceeded to drop the car back to the rental drop off in Munich airport. We were left waiting there for at least 15 mins before a Global Drive rep turned up to inspect the car. The rep offered no assistance whatsoever about the fuel cap. To top things off there were no luggage trolleys in the area so we had to carry heavy luggage over to the terminal. "
