    Driving information Romania

    General Information

Romania is a diverse country where you will find a variety of destinations. Drive along the Black Sea coast and visit the oldest town in Romania, Constanta. The city was founded already around 600 BC. The motorway A2 will then take you west to the capital of Bucharest. Be careful while driving off the motorways in Romania. Many roads are in bad condition and the driving style of many motorists might surprise you.

    Requirements
To rent a car in Romania, you must be at least 21 years old (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 1 year. For drivers under the age of 25 an additional young driver surcharge may apply locally. The maximum rental age is 70 years. Child seats are not mandatory but we strongly recommend that you use one.

    Speed Limits
    Speed limits in Romania are:

    • Town and city: 50 km/h
    • Open Roads: 90 km/h
    • Motorways: 120 km/h

    Traffic restrictions
In Romania you drive on the right side of the road. Vehicles entering on the right of a roundabout are given priority. Be aware that the driving style in Romania differs quite much from what you may be used to. Be prepared for drivers breaking the traffic rules and driving without lights. Take it easy and keep the distance. Romania has a zero policy for drinking and driving.

    Petrol
Petrol stations can be found in the outskirts, while exiting a town.

    Tolls
In Romania there are two tolls. One toll for traveling from Giurgiu into Bulgaria and one to cross the Danube River. To be able to travel on the national roads you also have to have a toll sticker (vignette). This might be included from the local supplier. Please ask when you pick up your rental car.

    Parking
In Romania you are only allowed to park your car on the right side of the street (in the direction of the traffic), this especially applies to major cities such as Bucharest. Car thefts are common so please keep in mind to park your car secure.

    Insurance Information

    General Information
Car rental insurance varies widely, so please study the information below prior to making your booking. Regulations of the country where you rent the car will be in effect for the duration of your rental.

All our car hire rates include Collision Damage coverage and Theft Protection for the vehicle. Rental limits potential vehicle damage or loss liability to an excess, which is stated on your voucher. If you plan to take advantage of coverage offered by your credit card, please contact your card issuer directly for details. Specific insurance information for your reservation will be printed on your confirmation voucher.

    Rental Restrictions

    General Information
Most car categories can be driven within Western Europe. If you wish to drive abroad (outside Romania) you need to purchase additional coverage. Please note that you may not take your rental car on a ferry. Due to insurance regulations, there are restrictions on luxury car categories and on travel in certain countries. Please take a moment to ensure that your intended itinerary will be possible with the car you plan to book.

    Restricted Countries
There are different rules applying so please let us know if you plan on taking your car outside of Romania. There are additional insurance fees that apply for these rentals. If you want to travel to Eastern Europe or cross any national border(s) with your rental car it is important that you please contact us on +49 89 412 09 786.

Domestic one-way rentals are available between certain locations, additional fees may apply. Fees also apply for international one-way rentals. International one way rentals are not allowed.
