Namibia is an exotic country in the southwestern part of Africa. Namibia offers beautiful scenery and wild animal life. Picking up a car at Windhoek in the centre of the country and head out in any direction. Visit the Etosha national park or drive along the beautiful South Atlantic coast. Start in Swakopmund and drive north up to Mowe Bay.
Requirements
To rent a car, you must be at least 18 years old and no older than 70 years (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 1 year. You English license works fine. For drivers under the age of 22 an additional young driver surcharge may apply locally.

Traffic restrictions
In Namibia you drive on the left side of the road, just like in Ireland. In Namibia it is forbidden to use a hand-held mobile phone while driving. A hands free is allowed. When driving on the countryside be aware that farm and wild animals might block the road.
Petrol
Most cities have petrol stations, despite of this it is still advisable to fill up before leaving a town.
Tolls
There are a few roads that require a toll. Bring some cash if needed.
Parking
The Namibia parking rules and fees are usually marked on signs (with English translations in tourist areas). Red and white markings mean "no parking zone". The yellow and white markings point out a short-term parking space. Diagonal white lines show parking space for motorcycles only. Fines are given for cars parked in the wrong place or for too long. They can be compensated at the local police station. If the car has been clamped, a police officer will be ordered to remove the wheel clamps.
