    Driving information Mexico

    General Information

Mexico is situated just south of US and presents an interesting mix of culture and stunning beaches. Collect a car from Mexico City or in Cancun and explore the surrounding areas. Drive defensively and avoid the city centres if you are not used to drive in Mexico.

    Requirements
To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old and maximum 75 years old (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 1 year. Drivers under age 25 have to pay an extra fee locally. (These regulations vary between local suppliers). Seat belts are mandatory.

    Speed Limits
    Speed limits in Mexico are:

    • Town and city: 30 km/h
    • Open Roads: 80 km/h
    • Motorways: 110 km/h

    Traffic restrictions
In Mexico you drive on the right side of the road. Always remember to take it extremely easy and avoid driving in the city centre. It is illegal to use a hand held mobile phone while driving. Due to problems with pollution in Mexico City certain areas are closed for traffic during certain days.

    Petrol
Petrol stations are easy to find and they have attendants who will fill up your car.

    Tolls
Most motorways have tolls. There are, however, alternative roads without tolls. They tend to be less maintained and longer. Bring some cash to pay for the tolls. Credit cards are sometimes accepted as well.

    Parking
Auto Europe recommends that you park in a secure parking space. Check if your hotel offers parking. Never leave any valuable items in your rental car.

    Insurance Information

    General Information
