Driving information Martinique

General Information

Martinique is a French Caribbean island with an excellent road system. With white beaches, crystal-clear water and swaying palm trees this is really the place to be. Martinique is a great place especially when driving around this exotic island. Drive through mountain areas and areas with lush tropical rain forest. With a rental car it is easy to find your own little private spot in the shadow.

Requirements
To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 1 year. For drivers under the age of 25 an additional young driver surcharge may apply locally. Seatbelts and child seats are mandatory.

Speed limits in Martinique are:

Town and city: 50 km/h
Open Roads: 90 km/h
Motorways: 110 km/h

Traffic restrictions
In Martinique you drive on the right side of the road. The quality of the bigger roads is really good. Many speed cameras are in use and manual checks are also common.

Petrol
There are many petrol stations in Martinique. Many of them also sell snacks and soft drinks.

Tolls
There are no tolls in Martinique.

Parking
Parking is normally easy to find and most hotels and resorts offer secure parking.
