    Driving information Kenya

    General Information

Kenya is an exotic country that offers both exciting safari parks and beautiful beaches. Car hire in Kenya is a great way of exploring this divers African country. If you plan to drive outside of the bigger roads and to the national parks we highly recommend a rental car with four wheel drive.

    Requirements
To rent a car, you must be at least 23 years old and maximum 70 years old (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 2 years. One tip: ask the local supplier for 2 spare wheels in case you plan on driving in rural areas.

    Speed Limits
    Speed limits in Kenya are:

    • Town and city: 50 km/h
    • Motorways: 110 km/h

    Traffic restrictions
In Kenya you drive on the left side of the road. Always remember to take it extremely easy and avoid driving in the city centre. The local drivers are infamous for their reckless way of driving. Avoid driving during the night. Wild animals might block the road.

    Petrol
There are many petrol stations around the cities. Fill up your tank before traveling to more rural areas. Sometimes you can drive for about 200 km without any petrol station in sight!

    Tolls
There are no road tolls in Kenya.

    Parking
We recommend parking your rental car in a secure parking area. Never leave any valuable items in your car.
