    Ireland is a beautiful country exploring with car hire. Take the chance of being a tourist in your own home country. There is a lot to see! A car hire in Ireland is safe, quick and easy with Auto Europe. Here is some general information about driving a rental car in Ireland.

    Requirements
    To rent a car, you must be at least 25 years old (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 1 year (rules may vary per supplier). For drivers under the age of 25 an additional young driver surcharge may apply locally. Seatbelts are mandatory and children up to age 3 must be seated in a child seat. Children less than 36 kg must be seated in child seat or booster seat.

    Speed Limits
    Speed limits in Ireland are:

    • Town and city: 50 km/h
    • Open Roads: 80 km/h
    • Motorways: 120 km/h

    Traffic restrictions
    Driving is to the left in Ireland. The blood alcohol limit is 0.8 milligrams per milliliters of blood. Radar traps are common and the signs indicate speed and distances in kilometers.

    Petrol
    Most petrol stations accept credit cards. It is easy to find petrol stations in Ireland, but plan ahead if you are driving in more remote locations.

    Tolls
    There is a few number of toll motorways in the Ireland. There are no toll booths where you can pay. You pay online, by phone or at a Payzone branded outlet.

    Parking
    In central Dublin you will find paid parking. Pay by using meters (cost around 1.30 - 1.90 EUR per hour). Disk parking is normally available outside the city centre. Fines are collected on the spot.

    Car rental insurance varies widely, so please study the information below prior to making your booking. Regulations of the country where you rent the car will be in effect for the duration of your rental.

    All our car hire rates include Collision Damage coverage and Theft Protection for the vehicle. Rental limits potential vehicle damage or loss liability to an excess, which is stated on your voucher. If you plan to take advantage of coverage offered by your credit card, please contact your card issuer directly for details. Specific insurance information for your reservation will be printed on your confirmation voucher.

    Rental Restrictions

    General Information
    Most car categories can be driven also in Northern Ireland and mainland UK. If you wish to drive abroad (outside Mainland Ireland) you need to purchase additional coverage. Please note that you may not take your rental car on a ferry. Due to insurance regulations, there are restrictions on luxury car categories and on travel in certain countries. Please take a moment to ensure that your intended itinerary will be possible with the car you plan to book.

    Restricted Countries
    When hiring a car in Ireland you can in most cases drive it to Northern Ireland and mainland UK. There are additional insurance fees that apply for these rentals.     Domestic one-way rentals are available between certain locations, additional fees may apply. Fees also apply for international one-way rentals. Some vehicles are prohibited on one way rentals.
