The second largest urban area in Iceland is located in the north. Its name is Aureyri, and we recommend it in the summer, when you may be able to observe the midnight sun at the Arctic Open. Head with your campervan to the south. The southern part of Iceland is said to have it all, starting from fascinating waterfalls to magnificent geysers and glaciers. One quite popular tourist attraction in the south is Landmannalaugar, a place in a nature reserve in the highlands, abundant with hot, thermal springs in the lava-formed landscape. Please note the roads at Landmannalaugar are closed between October and May. Your circular trip should now lead you to Reykjanes, a peninsula near the capital, home to the international airport with more geothermal springs and lighthouses than villages. Make a stop there to visit some of the museums, restaurants and churches and do not forget the Blue Lagoon, a little geothermal paradise in its own right.
