In the country of thousands of lakes you can enjoy beautiful scenery while driving along the 78 141 kilometers of Finnish roads. In the south there are more roads than in the north. Be aware that winter tires are compulsory between 1 Dec to end of Feb. All rental cars are equipped with winter tires during this period.
To rent a car in Finland, you must be at least 20 years old (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 1 year. For drivers under the age of 25 an additional young driver surcharge may apply locally. Seatbelts are mandatory and children under age 3 must be seated in a rear-facing car seat suitable for their age and weight.

In Finland you drive on the right side of the road. Be aware of speed cameras that are quite common. Trams are to be given free way. Speed cameras are being used in Finland. A sign will indicate the current speed limit well before the camera. Please also be aware that dipped headlights should be used at all times.
Most petrol stations open from 07:00 to 21:00. Automatic pumps and stations in the bigger cities are often open 24 h.
There are no motorway tolls in Finland.
Metered parking is the most common. If you do not see any meter you can use a parking disc and display it well visible on your dashboard. Please always read the parking signs to avoid parking fines.
Car rental insurance varies widely, so please study the information below prior to making your booking. Regulations of the country where you rent the car will be in effect for the duration of your rental.

Most car categories can be driven within Western Europe, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and Ireland. If you wish to drive abroad (outside Finland) you need to purchase additional coverage. Please note that you may not take your rental car on a ferry. Due to insurance regulations, there are restrictions on luxury car categories and on travel in certain countries. Please take a moment to ensure that your intended itinerary will be possible with the car you plan to book. If you plan on driving abroad during the winter please note that the car might be equipped with spiked snow tires and are therefore not allowed to travel abroad (only into Sweden ? by land).
When you hire a car in Finland you can normally drive it to Sweden, Norway and other neighboring Western European countries. There are different rules applying so please let us know if you plan on taking your car outside of Finland. There are additional insurance fees that apply for these rentals.
