Croatia is a very beautiful country. By renting a car you can explore the lovely Adriatic coastline and make stops in little harbour towns and villages. Drive defensibly and take it slow. The Croatian traffic is more hectic than you might be used to.
To hire a car in Croatia, you must be at least 18 years old (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 1 year. For drivers under the age of 25 an additional young driver surcharge may apply locally. Seatbelts are mandatory for the driver and all passengers.

In Croatia you drive on the right side of the road. Please note that using a mobile phone while driving is banned in Croatia. If you must use your phone make sure you have a hands-free device. Fines for traffic violations are collected on the spot.
Petrol stations are normally open between 06:00 to 20:00. Stations in bigger towns are open 24h. Make sure you fill up your tank since it can be hard to find petrol stations in some parts.
There is a toll on the E59 and E70 motorways that lead out of Zagreb.
In the bigger cities you can park your rental car in different coloured zones. Red zones allow parking for 1 hour, yellow zones for 2 hours and green zones for 3 hours. The two latter are cheaper than the red zone parking. Make sure you buy a ticket and display it on your dashboard. Sundays are normally free, but always double check.

Most car categories can be driven within Western Europe, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and Ireland. If you wish to drive abroad (outside Croatia) you need to purchase additional coverage. Please note that you may not take your rental car on a ferry. Due to insurance regulations, there are restrictions on luxury car categories and on travel in certain countries. Please take a moment to ensure that your intended itinerary will be possible with the car you plan to book.
When you hire a car in Croatia you can normally drive it to Italy and other Western European countries.
