    Driving information Macedonia

    General Information

    acedonia is situated north of Greece and between Bulgaria and Albania. With a car from Macedonia you can explore all the ancient and cultural pearls this country has to offer. Visit national parks with interesting flora and fauna or drive to the capital Skopje. Here you will find the Kale fortress as well as the famous stone bridge. Macedonia has a subtropical climate and is a really nice place to spend your holiday in.

    Requirements
    To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 2 years. Some suppliers also have restrictions for drivers over 75 years. (Age regulations can vary depending on local supplier). Seatbelts are mandatory and you should carry your passport with you at any time.

    Speed Limits
    Speed limits in Macedonia are:

    • Town and city: 50 km/h
    • Open Roads: 80 km/h
    • Motorways: 120 km/h

    Traffic restrictions
    In Macedonia you drive on the right side of the road. Hand held mobile phones are not allowed. Use a hands free. Be aware that dipped head lights should be used all the time.

    Petrol
    Petrol stations are easy to find. Carry some cash in the local currency, since all stations do not except credit cards.

    Tolls
    Like in for example Italy all Macedonian roads are toll roads. When entering the road you collect a ticket which you will again give while exiting the road. The amount paid depends on the distance.

    Parking
    The locals are infamous for their way of parking. You might see double or triple parking and parking in the middle of the street! Just make sure you park in a secure area and never leave any valuable items behind in your car.

    Car rental insurance varies widely, so please study the information below prior to making your booking. Regulations of the country where you rent the car will be in effect for the duration of your rental.

    All our car hire rates include Collision Damage coverage and Theft Protection for the vehicle. Rental limits potential vehicle damage or loss liability to an excess, which is stated on your voucher. If you plan to take advantage of coverage offered by your credit card, please contact your card issuer directly for details. Specific insurance information for your reservation will be printed on your confirmation voucher.

    Rental Restrictions

    General Information
    Most car categories can be driven within Western Europe. If you wish to drive abroad (outside Macedonia) you need to purchase additional coverage. Please note that you may not take your rental car on a ferry. Due to insurance regulations, there are restrictions on luxury car categories and on travel in certain countries. Please take a moment to ensure that your intended itinerary will be possible with the car you plan to book.

    Restricted Countries
    When you collect a car from Macedonia you can normally drive it to all western European countries as well as most neighboring countries. There are different rules applying so please let us know if you plan on taking your car outside of Macedonia. There are additional insurance fees that apply for these rentals.

    Domestic one-way rentals are available between certain locations, additional fees may apply. Fees also apply for international one-way rentals. Some vehicles are prohibited on international one way rentals.
