The motorways in Greece connect the country in a good way. The oldest and most known motorway is the A1 PAThE (Piraeus-Athens-Thessaloniki-Evzoni). Bay driving this road you will pass through many important regions of this diverse country.
When you drive a rental car in Greece be aware. Take it slow and prepare for the unforeseen. The Greek way of driving differs quite much from what you might be used to.
To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 1 year. For drivers under the age of 25 an additional young driver surcharge may apply locally, same for drivers over 70. Seatbelts are mandatory and children up to age 4 must be seated in a child seat.

Petrol stations are normally open from 07:00 to 19:00.
If you wish to drive on one of the two National roads, called Ethniki Odos, you must pay a toll. The fee is around 1-2 EUR and has to be paid in cash.
In the bigger Greek cities, on-street parking is almost non-existent. We recommend that you find a tourist parking lot or hotel parking since illegal parking can cost you your license plate.

Most car categories can be driven within Western Europe, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and Ireland. If you wish to drive abroad (outside Mainland Greece) you need to purchase additional coverage. Please note that you may not take your rental car on a ferry. Due to insurance regulations, there are restrictions on luxury car categories and on travel in certain countries. Please take a moment to ensure that your intended itinerary will be possible with the car you plan to book.
