Driving tips Cyprus

General Information
In Cyprus you will find well-maintained, good-sized roads that connect the villages and the towns on this beautiful island. Big four lane motorways connect the bigger towns of  Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Ayia Napa and Paphos. Be aware that some roads might close during winter time.

To rent a car, you must be at least 21 years old (age can vary by car category) and have held your driver's license for at least 3 years. For drivers under the age of 25 an additional  young driver surcharge may apply locally. Seatbelts are mandatory and so are child seats for children up to 5 years.

Speed Limits
Speed limits in Cyprus are:

  • Town and city: 50 km/h
  • Motorways: 100 km/h

Traffic restrictions
In Cyprus you must drive on the left side of the road, just like in Ireland. Using a hand held mobile phone while driving is banned. It is forbidden to use the horn during the night and close to a hospital.

Petrol stations are to be found mainly in the bigger cities. In the rural areas there are some self-service stations that are open 24 h.

There are no toll roads in Cyprus.

In the city centre you can find parking meters where you can pay for parking one hour. Normally there is no fee during Saturday afternoons and Sundays and public holidays. Do not park where there is a yellow line painted on the curb. Parking is forbidden there.

Insurance Information
